Founded in 1957, the Fredericton Music Teachers’ Association (FMTA) is a professional organization of music teachers serving the greater Fredericton area. Our activities include organizing and hosting workshops, concerts, competitions, and recitals, as well as sponsoring various scholarships, festivals, and other events.
We are raising money for the purchase of a new concert-level grand piano, to be housed in Fredericton’s Christ Church Parish Church. The piano will be purchased and maintained by the Fredericton Music Teachers’ Association. Our goal is to raise $65,000. We are planning a 2-year period of fundraising, beginning in March 2017.
After researching different brands and models, we have selected the 7’6” Yamaha C7X grand piano, which comes highly recommended for its sound, quality of construction, and durability. While our final choice of make and model will depend on the success of our fundraising campaign, our hope is to purchase a C7X. Detailed information on this model can be found here.
While the maintenance of this piano will be overseen by the FMTA, the instrument will be available to the public for rental and use. It will thus enrich Fredericton’s broader music community by offering an exceptional piano in a versatile performance space that will host many notable musical events, such as the Atlantic Young Artist Concert Series, the NBRMTA Music Competition, and the Fredericton Music Festival.
As Fredericton’s music community grows, so does the need for more quality venues for performances and other events. Upgrading from the FMTA’s current instrument to a new concert-level grand piano will benefit music students, teachers, and the broader community by offering a top-quality piano venue for student recitals, concerts, masterclasses, festivals, examinations, and other events.
